I'd Like to Know

Around the time I launched this blog just about two years ago (my how time flies), I had a survey up asking about what kind of writing people were working on/what their goals were. Tonight I realized, though I know what a few of are up to, I'd love an update from as many of you as possible. Sharing even a few answers will benefit everyone because being a part of a larger community is one of the fun parts of being a writer (at least for many of us) and secondly, because it will help me select topics for future posts.

If you'd take a quick moment to leave a short note in the comments with your answers, I really would appreciate it.

Here's what I'd like to know:

1. Do you mainly write fiction, non-fiction or a little of both?

2. Are you working on a book?

3. If yes to #2, do you plan to publish traditionally, independently, or POD/pay-to-publish?

4. If you're planning to publish a book in one way or another, do you want to make a serious income from it, is it more for friends/family, a ministry tool or something else?

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend & Happy Valentine's Day!

Good Writing & God Bless,
Cheryl Pickett

Cheryl, I am currently working on multiple projects. I have one POD Christian novel out there: Through the Waters, the first of four. The second is with proofreader hopefully out in 45-60 days. My concern is how to balance my Christian fictional works with some secular, narrative nonfiction projects. I am writing a book proposal for my first major work in that genre. Does it diminish me in the eyes of Christian publishing houses? Do they ever publish books that are not aimed at a Christian audience?

FICTION

2. Are you working on a book?

Final edits on 2nd - 3rd 25% underway

3. If yes to #2, do you plan to publish....

Not traditionally - maybe self or POD

4. .... do you want to make a serious income from it?...

I like to make a profit - serious income would be the ultimate shocker

BTW - Hi Cheryl - hope things are going well. Have been really busy down here. Will be in Miami for a year beginning next week. THAT doesn't help new book launch or promotion! Oh well.

Jeanne, Most publishers stick to what they feel they do best, for Christian houses it's going to be things that are Christian based. I don't know if any venture to other things, they may now and then. The best way to figure it out is to see who publishes books similar to what you are writing. Would it diminish your chances? Depends on who you asked. Some publishers say publishing outside traditional makes no diff, some say it can. The biggest thing if you query a publisher is to show A) you fully understand what they publish and your books fits perfectly B)you have a marketing plan and/or an established platform to help move books.

JaxPop (Dave), Great to hear from you! At least the whether will be nice in Miami?? How are the moving plans going? I'm sure you'll find a way to keep things rolling. Keep us posted on everything.

Thank you so much both of you for stopping by!

Cheryl, I am not currently working on a book, but marketing my new book. If and when I do write another one I will self publish again.
